Sir Charles, thank you, thank you…
Portrait of the British conductor Sir Charles Mackerras, who brought Janáček to the world (documentary by Czech Television, 2010, directed by Rudolf Chudoba, 53 min.)
“If I am to be remembered for anything, it will probably be for Janáček…”
Sir Charles Mackerras (1925-2010)
In this documentary portrait, director Rudolf Chudoba brings to life the personality of Sir Charles Mackerras through archival footage (including excerpts from his collaboration with the Brno Philharmonic), a 2009 interview and insights from his great colleagues – Sir Simon Rattle, Sir John Eliot Gardiner, Magdalena Kožená and leading British Janáček scholar John Tyrrell.
The screening of the documentary will be followed by a discussion with Sir Charles Mackerras’ daughter Catherine, musicologist and Janáček scholar Jiří Zahrádka and director Rudolf Chudoba.
